I feel I have the skills that would help me carry out these duties. Shetland Sheepdogs have been my breed since 1985. My kennel prefix is Brockhill. I maintain a limited number of dogs at any one time. I co-bred my first litter in 1996. I am an active participant in conformation and obedience and have done some herding and agility. I am interested in all facets of interaction with my dogs, such as therapy, Canine Good Citizen, Temperament Testing, fly ball, and visitation. My career has been a biologist for the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans responsible for scallop stock assessment and research. My work involves collection and analysis of scientific data, supervising staff, budgeting, writing and presenting reports and papers to peers and the general public. I am responsible for negotiations with fisherman in joint industry funded research projects. As Vice-President I would actively contribute to the continuing success of the CSSA. I would act as a team member on the Executive promoting CSSA and Shetland Sheepdogs through the policies of the club. I would actively promote Member involvement in grass root issues. I would be willing to assist Regional Directors in initiating group activities and educational seminars for judges or prospective judges within their regions. I would continue to work with the director in my own region, for educational programs and social activities within my own region. My experience on the CSSA Executive, my work with Local Breed Clubs, my executive experience in the local All-Breed Club, and my work with the planning and running of Shows and Trials, along with the knowledge gained from my daily job with the Federal government will enable me to be an effective member of the CSSA executive in the position of Vice President. Secretary - by acclamation Denise Cornelssen - Alberta Nominated by, Melissa Fancey, Kim Aston, Maureen Butler, Sherrie Sparling, Peter Culumovic, Treasurer - by acclamation Incumbent Pat Ristau - Saskatchewan Membership Election Incumbent - Corinne Rainsforth - Alberta I have been a member of the CSSA for the past 10 years and the Membership Chair for the past 3 years. I live on 10 acres one mile outside of Calgary, Alberta. I have been breeding and showing Shelties under the Shelgrande prefix since 1975. For the first 12 years I competed mostly in the Obedience ring. Thirteen years ago, I decided to try my hand in the Conformation Ring. Since that time, we have been very fortunate in acquiring excellent breeding stock and together with my husband Rex, we have bred or owned over 25 Canadian Champions including some who are U.S. pointed or have completed their American Championships. I work full time at the University of Calgary for the two university veterinarians. We work mostly with the "Banchory" and "Heritage Spirit" lines and currently have 10 Shelties, 1 Standard Schnauzer, a horse and numerous cats. Nominee Yvonne Halkow - Alberta Nominated by – Pat Ristau, Daphne Chalk, Margaret Zacher, Lillian Laufer-Fleck and Carol Williams. I purchased my first pure-bred sheltie in 1978 but having a young family at that time did not promote active participation in the fancy. In 1990, I obtained my first show prospect and in 1992, I produced my first litter under the prefix WillowGlyn. Since then, I have produced 23 homebred champions and finished 7 shelties purchased from other breeders (including one OTCh). In my other life, I worked as a Psychiatric nurse for a number of years and went on to form an independent counselling practice that mainly provided counselling services to aboriginal people in north-central Alberta. I also completed a Master of Science degree, with my thesis being based on the effects of residential schools on aboriginal people. I have enjoyed doing the newsletter for the past four years but feel that a change of scenery is needed. I look forward to continuing to serve the CSSA in whatever way I can. Newsletter - by acclamation Lorna Stolz - Alberta Nominated by, Bev Klassen, Duff Couillard, Brenda Christenson, Colleen Andrus, and Lyn Wolanski. Provincial Directors British Columbia Director– by acclamation Marilyn Bernard Nominating Committee Alberta Director – by acclamation Alice Kumm Nominated by, Bev Klassen and Duff Couillard Saskatchewan Director Nominee – Marge Janzen Nominated by, Pat Ristau and Liz Herron I live on acreage about 6 minutes from Saskatoon, Sask. My 2 sons are grown up. My son Kelly and his wife Leanne are moving to Cornwall, Ontario to take his training as an Air Traffic Controller. My other son Robin is going into his second year of university, taking education. My husband Alvin, and sons, operates a RaceCar Team, Janzen Motorsports. Robin is the driver of the 1999 Monte Carlo Super Late Model racecar. Kelly does all of the technical stuff and Alvin builds everything and ensures that all is safe so that "mom doesn't have to worry". My husband and I also own an Auto Repair Shop, which he operates, from our acreage. I do month end books, "gophering", etc. I also work part time for an electronics firm, on a contractual and consulting basis, trouble shooting projects and helping to increase efficiency and overall performance on an assembly line for the Military. Enough of that! Now... on to what has become a passion in my life. Nominee – Jill Werle Nominated by, Merrill Bannister and Joan Wiik In the Sheltie world I am a “lifer” with my first Sheltie arriving in our home before I did. I have been fortunate to have, had some special shelties in my life – haven’t we all. I belonged to the CSSA at its inception and was a member of the planning committee of the first national specialty in Saskatoon. I have had a hiatus for several years—marriage, old dogs… Saskatchewan is a large place with great Shelties and a few people. We need to make Saskatchewan members known to everyone by sharing our stories and our celebrations. Saskatchewan members also need to connect and find s common uniting thread, grounded in ethical practice within the world of Shelties. I believe I can help make that happen.
